Fashion fades, only style remains the same. - Coco Chanel

DOC MARTINS...
These thick soled, leathered made boots have been alternatively in fashion since way back in the 1960's when younger generations began behaving and acting differently to their elders. In the 'punk' era these fabulous leather boots were key to looking the part! When punks were around their 'look' consisited of old, torn, ripped and rugged clothing, they looked very dishevelled and different from the smart, scrubbed up look of the older and well behaved, prim and proper generation.

Doctor Martens come in many, many varied designs, shapes and styles to fit your 'look' or outfit.
Doc's consist of 8, 14 or 22 holed boots. Sandals. Heels. Mary-Janes. Many of the shoes and boots are either block colours, originally red and black. Now they have floral, holographic, animal, bright and dull patterns, there are some really groovy styles.

Are they not just a shoe closet must? I think so...!

Marco Simoncelli R.I.P

Name: Marco Simoncelli
Nationality: Italian
Born: 20th January, 1987. Cattolica, Italy.
Died: 23rd October, 2011. (aged 24) Sepang, Malaysia.
Occupation: Grand Prix, motorcycle road racer. (MotoGP)
This young, gorgeous, Italian, MotoGP champion will be sadly missed after his tragic accident in Sepang, Malaysia, 23rd October 2011.
In an unfortunate accident involving Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards during the Malaysian GP on the Sepang International Circuit, Simoncelli was 4th place during the beginning of their 2nd lap when his bike veered across the track in front of Edwards and Rossi. During the horrific crash Rossi was fine as he wasn't in the crash as much as Edwards and he came out with a dislocated shoulder, while Marco lay in the track, still, his helmet and bike metres away with Edwards and his bike. The race was red flagged almost immediately after. Simoncelli was taken to the circuits medical centre but at 16:56 (local time) sadly past from his injuries, involving severe trauma to the head, chest and neck, although cardiopulmonary resuscitation was carried out for 45 minutes.

If anyone would like the watch the clip of the crash heres the link: http://www.streetfire.net/video/2011-moto-gp-sepang-marco-simoncelli-fatal-crash_2328605.htm

Get your legs out...

On thursdays of every week at college we have pattern cutting.
During pattern cutting we make blocks, patterns and garments.
On thursday the 6th of October, me and the girls in my group made a skirt from old bed sheets.
We made the blocks and the toile, as you may want to call it, this means a mock up of a garment, so if there are any changes to be made or adjustments you do it to this first then cut out on your proper fabric.

This is where we started, with the skirt blocks we created from cratch, this task was the most difficult in my opinion...

We then drew round these onto paper adding the seam allowance.
When this was complete we pinned it to the material and cut this out too.

This is my final garment, I realise the material isn't great but I thought the colours were very Autumnal.
Front.
The front only has 2 darts to give it a more fitted shape.
It has less than the back so as to not make it too tight and as the front does not need as much fitting.

Left side.
This is where the zip will go, as we have left an over locked edge ready to add it in.

 Back.
The back has four darts in so as to make the curve for the bum and make it more fitted to the body.

Right side.
